Here at Camden on the Lake Resort, we take pride in our large, beautiful and luxurious guest suites. With 117 suites, most of which overlook the Lake of the Ozarks, we feature high end finishes, plush linens, kitchenettes, large bathrooms with oversized showers, flat-screen TVs, and surround sound stereos. Most also feature private balconies and built-in fireplaces and some feature Jacuzzi tubs. It sounds like the ultimate vacation home, right? In our “Day in the Life” blog series, we’d like to take you behind the scenes at our busy full-service resort at Lake of the Ozarks; to peek behind the curtain on a variety of positions. This week we will focus on a position in a department that is often overlooked: housekeeping.

 

Those who have experience in the hotel business know that the housekeeping department is the backbone of the resort. Without clean rooms, guests can’t get checked in. But there is more to the whole process than simply cleaning the room.

It begins and ends with constant communication between the Housekeeping, Maintenance and Front Desk departments to determine the current status of each room, whether it’s occupied, under maintenance, clean or dirty. Before a room is checked out to a guest, it must not only be cleaned but inspected. Only once a room is finally inspected does it become cleared to check in to a new guest. Sometimes, the hotel will even have a “full-house flip” in which one sell-out group checks out and another one checks in on the same day! That means all 117 rooms must be checked out, cleaned, and then inspected before the next group checks in. A Rooms Inspector is an integral part of the process here at the most luxurious resort at Lake of the Ozarks.

 

A Camden on the Lake Rooms Inspector must go through an extensive checklist to ensure that the room has been properly cleaned and that all of the components of the room are working and ready for the next guest. They must work quickly and efficiently and can often be seen zipping through the hallway with their clipboard off to the next room to inspect. They must track the constantly changing status of the rooms and be able to communicate that information to the front desk. We’d like to introduce you to one of our Rooms Inspectors here at Camden on the Lake.

  1. How long have you worked at Camden?

Two and a half years.

  1. What do you do first when you get to work?

I like to come in early to get my day ready to go before I clock in.

  1. What is your favorite part of the day and why?

I like to stay busy, so my favorite part of the day is the morning because everyone is ready to clean and do their job.

  1. What’s different about working at Camden on the Lake than other properties?

We are like family. Everyone welcomes the new ones in with open arms.

  1. What is the most memorable or crazy thing that happened this week?

Every day is different! My manager, Teresa, keeps us busy with new challenges every day.

  1. What is the last thing you do before you leave?

As an inspector, I make sure everything is done and done right before leaving.

  1. Housekeeping can be very physically and mentally draining…what do you like to do to relax?

When I get home, I like to sit out at my picnic table feeding the deer and my cat, Dixie, watching them while I drink a cup of coffee (yes, coffee, even in the evening!).
